Nizami shifted to Dhaka

GAZIPUR: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami was shifted to Dhaka from Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur on Tuesday evening.

He was shifted a day before the verdict in a case filed against the accused on charge of crimes against humanity during liberation war in 1971.

Jailer Jannatul Farhad made the disclosure to banglanews.

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 said the verdict of Nizami is scheduled to be passed on Wednesday.

Jail sources said Nizami was in the Kashimpur jail after getting gallows in ten truck arms case handed down in February this year.

The tribunal consisting of three members led by ICT-1 chairman Justice Enayetur Rahim will deliver the verdict in the case of 15 charges against Nizami, the sources added.

The Jamaat chief was arrested on June 29 in 2010 and the verdict was scheduled to pronounce on June 24 in 2014 but it was deferred for his physical sickness.
