82 gold bars seized at Ctg airport

CHITTAGONG: Customs officials detained a passenger with 82 gold bars, weighing 9.5kg, at port city’s Shah Amanat International Airport on Thursday. 

The bearer has been identified as Mohammad Husssain, 30, a resident of Anwara of the district.

The gold was recovered from Hussain, a passenger of Flydubai, came here from Dubai at 11:30am, said Shah Amanat International Airport customs authorities’ assistant director Shushanto Paul.

“We challenged him at the last moment of leaving airport after immigration and found the 82 gold bars wrapping with a cloth at his waist,” the intelligence official added.

The seized gold was worth about Tk 4 crore, according to Shushanto Paul.

Nevertheless, the passenger has been detained and legal actions will be taken against him, he again said.
