DHAKA: At least three persons sustained injuries as hartal supporters exploded cocktails at Jurain’s Khalpar area in the capital during Jamaat-called hartal’s early hour on Wednesday.
The injured are Sumon Sarder, 40, resident of that area, his nephew Rifat Sarder, 12 and Sumon’s another relative Emon, 18.
Sources told banglanews that the trio got injuries around 9:00am as splinters of cocktails hurled by hartal supporters pierced their bodies.
Later, sources added, locals rushed them to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
However, DMCH police camp in-charge Mojammel Haque, confirming the matter, said that the injured are now undergoing treatment there.
Nevertheless, the 48-hour hartal, called by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami protesting its two leaders’ death sentence, has begun from Wednesday morning.
The fresh shutdown, beginning from 6:00am, will end at 6:00am Friday.
Earlier, a 60-hour countrywide shutdown, which was marked in two phases, protesting the death sentence of Jamaat ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami for his war crimes, ended on Monday evening.
