DHAKA: Dhaka City Corporation (south) in cooperation with police administration evicted the flower shops in city’s Shahbagh area.

The eviction drive was conducted at 11:00am on Saturday.

The shop-owners claimed that they maintained a ‘mutual contract’ with the DCC officials to run the business.

Shahbagh Thana Officer-in-Charge Sirajul Islam told banglanews that the DCC officials conducted the eviction drive with the help of police.

However, the shop-owners said that this sudden drive has made huge financial loss for them.

They further said that there was an announcement just a few minutes prior to the eviction.

Many of them could not shift their goods within the few minutes, they added.

One of the flower-businessmen Abdul Karim claimed that they had regularly been paying Tk 750 every month to the DCC for cleaning the garbage.

This sudden eviction drive has made the businesspeople of the country’s largest flower market loser, he added.
