Dhaka: Two suspected criminals were killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) troubleshooters in the capital’s Hatirjheel area on Wednesday evening.
The deceased were identified as Jabbar and Selim alias Sailya. Rab claimed they were ‘identified terrorists’ in Karwanbazar and Rajabazar market areas.
Operation Officer of Rab-2 Captain Khalid told banglanews24.com.bd that, acting on a tip-off, the elite force was patrolling near Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) areas at about 7:00pm. The patrols signaled a car to stop, being driven by Jabbar.
“As Rab members began searching the vehicle, those culprits opened fire on the law enforcers. Rab counter-fired. At one stage of the gunfight that ensued, the criminals died on the spot,” he said.
Rab-2 also claimed that there are at least 25 cases pending against Sailya in city’s different Thanas.
The bodies of the duo were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue.
Rab officials said details would be disclosed through a press release “soon”.
