NARAYANGANJ: A Juba League activist was chopped to death while 10 others were injured during a fierce clash between Awami League and BNP in Araihazar upazila on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Amzad Hossain Mollah, 45, an activist of the upazila Juba League unit.
Witnesses said activists of Awami League had ripped up the festoons of BNP in the Purinda Bazar area recently. BNP men also retaliated with tearing AL’s festoons there on Sunday.
At one stage, both party men started chase and counter-chase with sharpen weapons, trigging a clash and gun fight.
BNP men chopped Amzad, injuring him critically. The clash also left 10 people injured.
Amzad along with the injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Araihazar Thana Officer-On-Charge (OC) Alamgir Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Additional police forces have been deployed in the area and situation is under control now, the OC said.
