BANDARBAN: A youth was killed and 20 others were injured as a jeep plunged into a roadside ditch at Lama upazila in the district on Sunday.

The deceased is identified as Mong Chai A Marma (30), son of Mongbushe Marma of Nunarbil in Lama Municipality area. Mong Chai was working as an MLSS at a UNDP project in the upazila.

Witnesses said that the passengers of the vehicle were returning from a funeral at Dhamma Jinna Buddhist Bihar. At one stage, the jeep plunged into a roadside ditch in Mohammad-para area on Lama-Gajalia road at 4:00pm as the driver lost his control over the steering.

The accident left Mong Chai dead on the spot and 20 others injured.

The locals rescued and took them to Upazila Health Complex.
