KHAGRACHHARI: District Transport Owners-Workers Association has called off unidentified strike in the district till the end of December.
The owners-workers leaders have taken the decision on Saturday after an urgent meeting with the local MP Kujendra Lal.
They postponed their strike as the MP assured them about taking legal actions in this matter.
Association member secretary Muhammad Yunus Mia confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Earlier in the day, they called an unidentified strike in the district from Sunday morning protesting the reckless extortion on the roads.
The body gave an ultimatum of a week on Tuesday to the administration through a press conference to press home their demands.
Muhammad Yunus Mia said that their strike would continue across the district until the administration meets their demands.
He alleged that the transport owners and workers are forced to pay extortion on Khagrachhari-Chittagong-Dhaka and inter-district routes while plying the vehicles.
The workers are often beaten if they refuse to give money to the extortionists and they vandalize vehicles and snatch their legal papers, he added.
He also claimed that the administration is aware about the matter but hardly takes any action in this regard.
However, earlier in July, the transport owners and workers enforced a strike in this regard.
