1 jailed for selling govt drugs

COX’S BAZAR: A mobile court seized huge amount of government drugs worth about Tk 15 lakhs from two medicine stores in Panbazar of the district town on Saturday night.

The court, led by District administration executive magistrate Sadekur Rahman, also sealed off the medicine stores and jailed owners for different terms during a raid at two markets there at 8:00pm.

10 different types of government drugs were seized from Cox Medical Home, sealed off the shop and sentenced its owner Amal Das, 35, to six-month rigorous imprisonment.

Later, the court fined Shivu Prasad Dutt, 40, owner of Joy Medico Pharmacy a total of Tk 10,000 for selling unapproved Indian drugs.

Magistrate Sadekur told banglanews that the owners were sentenced on charges of storing government drugs, selling unapproved Indian drugs and even they did not have drugs licenses.

District drugs administration caretaker Hossain M Imran said they will look into the matter how government drugs came to the pharmacies.
