DHAKA: Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon on Wednesday said government is willing to make tourism as the top earning sector of the country.
The minister said, “We want to turn tourism into the country’s top foreign currency earning sector. Besides, a tourism-friendly mind setup is needed among the people.”
He was addressing the inaugural session of a workshop on tourism held the city’s CIRDAP auditorium in the morning.
Menon said tourism does not mean a structure with bricks and woods, but Cox’s Bazar, the country's premium tourist destination, has unfortunately been turned into a jungle of brick and woods.
The minister underscored the need for constituting “Cox’s Bazar Tourism Authority” in order to protect the town and also to draw more attention of tourists.
Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) organized program titled “Workshop on SWOT analysis of Bangladesh’s Tourisms Industry.”
Civil Aviation Secretary Khorshed Alam Choudhury and BTB chief executive officer Akhtaruz Zaman Khan Kabir, among others, were attended the function.
