Sufferings end in October!

DHAKA: Slow construction works delayed the opening of the Moghbazar-Malibagh-Mouchak flyover to traffic for eight months, increasing commuters’ sufferings gradually.

Though February in 2015 was the deadline for completion of the construction works, it has been extended to October, 2015.

Nazmul Alam, Project Director of the flyover, hopes to open the flyover stretching from Satrastha crossing to Holy Family Hospital and Banglamotor for vehicle movement in October.

The flyover project will come to an end by October, though 45 percent of the work of the flyover has been completed till date Nazmul told banglanews.

The director, however, admitted sufferings of city dwellers caused by the construction works but he blamed traffic management as one of the main impediments to the flyover construction.

Traffic movement apparently came to a mess in the areas, adjoining to the flyover due to the construction works and construction machineries. Moreover some roads have been stopped, narrowed down and blocked.

As a result, vehicles are seen waiting in a queue for hours after hours on roads. The authorities concerned took little measures to reduce the traffic jam.

An anguished resident of the city’s Moghbazar area, Dr Jamal Uddin, told that construction works of the flyover is one of the major reasons to create traffic congestion in the area. People have to shuttle everyday through the routes amid manifold problems, he added.

Architect Iqbal Habib told banglanews that the reduction of public sufferings should be given the first priority during any construction works.

This issue has often been ignored during the construction works for city’s development, resulting delay in works and creating bitterness among the city dwellers, Iqbal added.

The architect also opined that public heath, time and environment are somewhat facing threats for the construction works.

Lack of coordination among the service providing organizations like WASA, TITAS, T&T are causing slowness in the construction works.

Meanwhile, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has been frequently visiting to the construction sites in a bid to finish the works in time.

However, commuters face unbearable misery while traveling through roads in the area and find no way out to get rid of this dilemma.
