BARISAL: A police member was killed in a road accident on Barisal-Dhaka highway in Kashipur Bazar area of Airport Thana on Friday.

The victim was identified as Jewel, 35, a police officer of Armed Police Battalion.

Officer-in-charge (OC) Shahiduzzaman of Airport Thana said a speedy truck rammed into the motorcycle carrying Jewel and his wife Mahinur Begum, 35, in the area when they were coming to the city from Gariarpar area around 2:30pm, leaving the duo severely injured.

Locals rushed the injured to the Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital where the attending doctors declared Jewel dead.

However, the law enforcers seized the truck, the OC added.
