DHAKA: The namaz-e-janaza of veteran politician and former minister Sardar Amjad Hossain was held at south plaza of Jatiya Sangsad on Saturday morning.
Deputy Speaker M Fazle Rabbi Mia, Chief Whip ASM Firoz, Workers Party MP Fazle Hossain Badsha, ruling Awami League MP Nahim Razzak, columnist Abul Maksud and people from different walks of life joined the janaza held at 10:30am.
After janaza, Deputy Speaker, on behalf of the Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Chief Whip, M Noman MP, on behalf of the leader of opposition, paid tributes to the former minister.
Whip Shahbuddin, MP KM Jahangir Hossain were present during the time.
Sardar Amjad died at Apollo Hospital in Dhaka on Friday afternoon due to old age complexity.
In 1970, Amjad was elected as Pakistan’s Provincial Assembly member.
After the independence of Bangladesh, he was elected a Member of Parliament (MP) in 1973.
Later in 1987, Amjad joined Jatiya Party (JP) and became the minister for agriculture, food, land, fisheries and livestock.
Moreover, he again joined AL in 2007, but, took part in the national election in 2008 under the banner of ‘Nagarik Committee’ as AL did not give him party nomination.
After being defeated in the election, he left active politics.
However, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury and Deputy Speaker M Fazle Rabbi Mia, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia mourned the death of Sardar Amjad.
