US for not any particular party: Mozena

DHAKA: Outgoing US Ambassador in Dhaka Dan W Mozena on Saturday said his country does not try to bring any particular political party of Bangladesh to state power.

The US diplomat was addressing a press conference at American Centre of US Embassy in the city’s Baridhara area.

Mozena said that bringing any particular political party of Bangladesh to power is not the goal of his country. People of the country would decide which party will assume power and who will rule the country, the newsmen were told.

Regarding his achievement during his tenure in Dhaka, he said that institutionalization of bilateral relations between US and Bangladesh is his biggest achievement adding “now Dhaka and Washington are enjoying more deep and strong relationship than ever before”.

Citing many potentialities of country, Mozena said, in any standard, Bangladesh is no longer a poor country. But infrastructure, curbing corruption, keeping political stability and maintaining garment sector’s position in the international garment trade are the big challenges.

A revolution in education is necessary for the development of Bangladesh as quality education advances any country, he added.

Mozena will leave Dhaka on Sunday as his tenure ends.

Earlier, he paid a farewell call on President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Leader of the Opposition Begum Raushan Ershad and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
