KHULNA: Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s information affairs adviser, on Saturday said an independent wage board would be formed for the journalists working at private television channels.
The senior journalist made the disclosure while exchanging views with journalists at Khulna Press Club in the afternoon.
Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury said, “Publishing news items which are false and motivated by vested quarters are not journalism.”
Broadcast policy will be published for the development, freedom of expression and impartial practice of journalism, he added.
The wage board will be implemented after consulting with journalists and television owners so that TV media can flourish in the country, he added.
With Khulna Press Club President Faruk Ahmed in the chair, the function was addressed, among others, by former president of Khulna Press Club Begum Ferdausi Ali, Makbul Hossain Mintu, general secretary SM Zahid Hossain, Khulna Sangbadik Union president Anwarul Islam Kajal, general secretary Mahbubul Alam Sohag.
