HABIGANJ: A Habiganj court issued arrest warrant against 11 people, including BNP leader Harris Chowdhury and Sylhet City Mayor Ariful, in a case of killing former finance Minister SAMS Kibria.

Judge of Senior Judicial Magistrate Court Rashid Ahmed Milon passed the order accepting the charge-sheet on Sunday noon.

On November 13, investigation officer CID senior assistant police super Meherunnesa Parul submitted the charge-sheet mentioning 35 names and eleven were added newly.

Later, the court fixed January 8 next as next day for proceedings of the case.

In the meantime, local Awami League brought out a procession demanding death penalty of the charge sheeted persons. While BNP activists also brought out procession terming the charge-sheet fake.

Later on confrontation, they locked into chase and counter chase, leaving a Jubo Dal activist injured. He was rushed to Habigabj Sadar Adhunik Hospital.

Additional law enforcers were deployed in the district town to avert any untoward situation while tension mounting in the area apprehending clash.

On January 27 in 2005, Kibria and four others were killed in a grenade attack in Baidder Bazar area.
