DHAKA: The high-ups of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries reached in a consensus about setting-up a common power grid for the region.
Besides, they took a decision about establishing a trans-border gas pipe-line for the SAARC region.
The decisions were finalised on the final day of the two-day long first SAARC energy regulators’ meeting started on Sunday at a city hotel in a bid to make the exchange of power, energy and gas easy.
The matters were disclosed in a press briefing on Monday afternoon.
Media and Integration Division Director of SAARC Secretariat Mohammad Ibrahim Ghafoori said, “The meeting was very fruitful. Many decisions were adopted that will be implemented gradually.”
Addressing the meeting, Chairman of Bangladesh Regulatory Commission (BRC) AR Khan said, “There are many opportunities in the SAARC countries. All the countries would be benefited if we can use these.”
He further said, “We need a trans-border grid line so that we can exchange energy.”
All the countries have reached in a consensus about it, he added.
