DHAKA: The customs officials detained a man along with seven gold bars and some gold ornaments, weighting 734 grams, from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday midnight.

The detainee Farid Matbar, 40, came from Malaysia by a Malaysia Airline flight MH196 which landed at the airport around 10:00pm.

Assistant Commissioner Farid Al Mamun of Airport customs confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said, on suspicion, the authorities searched Farid while crossing the Airport’s green channel area and recovered seven gold bars, weighting 700 grams, and 34 grams gold ornaments around 11:45pm.

A case will be filed in this connection, the assistant commissioner added.
