DHAKA: Customs Intelligence officials on Monday detained a man with 36 pieces of gold bars, weighing around 4.198 kilograms, from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The identity of the detainees could not be known immediately.
Confirming the matter, customs’ assistant director Umme Nahida said that the passenger came from Dubai by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BG 048) that landed at the airport in the morning.
“Following his suspicious movement, the customs officials challenged him while he was passing through the internal terminal,” she added. “Later, 36 pieces of gold bars were found hidden inside at waist and shoes of the man.”
Market price of the seized gold is estimated around Tk 2-crore, she said.
