Tangail Wednesday hartal called off

TANGAIL: District Anti-Social Activities Prevention Committee withdrew the daylong hartal for Wednesday called for protesting the reopening of a brothel in Kandapara area of the district.

Committee president Maulana Abdul Aziz told banglanews that they have withdrawn the hartal respecting rule of law and fearing it would harm people’s lives and properties.

Earlier On December 19, the committee called a daylong shutdown in the district as police resisted the devotees while they brought out a procession from the mosque after the Juma prayer protesting returning of sex-workers in Kandapara area of the sadar town following a High Court order.

Committee secretary Maulana Abdul Jalil and Central Graveyard Mosque imam Maulana Mufti Ashrafuzzaman Kasemi, among others, were present during the declaration.

On July 12, around 2,000 women, including 800 sex-workers left their residents in the area due to the protest of Anti-Social Activities Prevention Committee.
