AL stages victory rally January 5

DHAKA: The ruling Awami League (AL) will stage victory rally across the country on January 5.

Moreover, they will also arrange a grand rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city in the afternoon on the day.

The authorities concerned allowed holding the rally as the party appealed for the permission 10 days before the program.

AL joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif made the assertion after a meeting with AL senior leaders in city on Thursday.

Mentioning the clashes in city’s Bakshibazar area centering Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia’s appearance at court and torching a vehicle of an MP as pre-planned, the AL leader said BNP and its student wing Chhatra Dal’s ‘terrorist group’ created the violence to make the situation unstable.

Alleging the BNP men attacked the people bringing 10,000-15,000 cadres from across the country, he said BNP started conducting violence taking the advantage of democracy.

Pointing to the BNP’s upcoming program in the same area on January 5, Hanif said they are not afraid of the program.

He added: “But, we will encounter them who will try to deteriorate the situation, create violence and attempt to damage people’s properties.”

The AL leader claimed that the pro-BNP activists attacked on AL MP Chhabi Biswas and at emergency unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital creating panic in the area.
