Pabna: A fratricidal fight between two rival groups in the local chapter of the ruling Awami League over farm-labor recruitment left one dead and 10 injured on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Abul Kashem, 35, elder brother of Abul Hashem, Jubo League president of Maligachha union in sadar upazila.

Among the injured, two were admitted into Pabna general hospital and another two with critical injuries sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

According to the police and local people, there was a dispute between Abul Hashem and Mohammad Ali, assistant general secretary of Maligachha union Awami League, over the hiring of master-role workers in Tabunia Agricultural Farm of Maligachha.

In a sequel to the dispute, they said, some workers of Hashem group were recently terminated from their jobs. The Ali faithful resisted the terminated workers as they tried to join their work on Thursday morning, they added.

“A fierce clash broke out following altercation between them, which left Kashem dead and 10 others injured,” says a spot report.

“Immediately after the clash, additional force has been deployed in the locality,” said SI Hasanuzzaman of Sadar Thana.

A murder case was filed.
