DHAKA: State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Thursday said the vehicular movements on roads, rails and waterways would remain active from Thursday night at any cost.
“We have decided that the vehicular movements will be normal from the night and law enforcers will protect the vehicles as the transport owners are afraid of vandalism,” he said.
He made the assertion while briefing reporters after a meeting with transport owners in his secretariat office on Thursday evening.
Kamal said Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) called countrywide blockade from Tuesday and threatened to disconnect Dhaka from rest parts of the country.
Foiling BNP’s planning, the government has kept Dhaka city normal despite some sporadic incidents, including torching vehicles in the city, he added.
According to the state minister, they have also discussed about the security measures with Inspector General of Police (IGP), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) director general, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) director general and Ansar director general.
LGRD state minister Mashiur Rahman Ranga, home ministry’s additional secretary (security) Mustafa Kamal Uddin, IGP AKM Shahidul Haque, RAB director general Benazir Ahmed, BGB director general Aziz Ahmed and road transport leaders, among others, were present in the meeting chaired by shipping minister Shajahan Khan.
