DHAKA: The justice recruitment process in Supreme Court will be more transparent after reviewing the existing rules of the Constitution.
Newly appointed Chief Justice SK Sinha (Surendra Kumar Sinha) made the observation in his speech at a felicitation program, organized at apex court premises to celebrate his first day at new office on Sunday.
Emphasizing on doubling the number of judges, SK Sinha said, “Some 365,059 cases are awaiting disposal at the High Court and Supreme Court while 2,495,944 in the district courts across the country.”
The new Chief Justice also talked about reducing case pile, vacations, controlling lower courts and reforming benches with senior justices.
The program was attended, among others, by Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and Supreme Court Bar Association President Khandakar Mahbub Hossain.
SK Sinha took oath as the 21st chief justice of Bangladesh on Saturday morning. President Abdul Hamid administered the oath around 11:00am at Bangabhaban in presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
