Arrest warrant against Tarique-Fakhrul

DHAKA: A Dhaka Court issued arrest warrant against Tarique Rahman and Mirza Fakhrul in a case filed over derogatory remarks on Bangabandhu and Sheikh Hasina.

On September 9, 2014, AB Siddique, president of Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad, a pro-Awami league organisation, filed the case with the Court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Dhaka.

Taking the case into cognizance, Metropolitan Magistrate Md Erfan Ullah asked the officer-in-charge of Paltan Police Station to investigate the matter and submit a report to the court within October 20.

In the case, the complainant claimed that BNP senior vice chairman Tarique, at a seminar at Queen Mary University in London on August 24, said “the prime minister was the leader of black sheep”.

On the other hand, BNP acting Secretary General Fakhrul on September 2 said late president Ziaur Rahman was the first president of Bangladesh, the plaintiff claimed.
