DHAKA: The namaz-e-janaza of Arafat Rahman Koko, younger son of former President Ziaur Rahman and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, was held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Asr prayer on Tuesday.

Several thousands of BNP leaders and activists and its alliance along with people of all walks of life attended the funeral.

Arafat Rahman Koko will be buried at Banani Graveyard for civilians after his funeral, BNP sources said.

Earlier in the day, the body reached the national mosque at 4:40pm.

Security was beefed up in the area to avert any untoward situation incident at the place centering the janaza.

However, an ambulance carrying Koko’s dead body left Khaleda’s Gulshan political office at 2:45pm.

Earlier on the day, Koko’s dead body was taken to Khaleda’s Gulshan office where many BNP and 20-party alliance people had gathered.

Khaleda Zia broke down in tears and got grief-stricken after seeing her son’s body.

The political office of BNP chief got overshadowed by grief.

However, a flight of Malaysia Airlines, carrying the body, landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:45am Tuesday.

Earlier on Saturday, Arafat Rahman Koko, 45, died at a hospital in Malaysia of cardiac arrest.
