DHAKA: British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert W Gibson expressed his sadness and regret learning the continuing loss of life and injury, as well as the detrimental effect on children’s education and the economy caused by the ongoing violence across the country.
He also called on all parties to refrain from inciting or committing acts of violence and intimidation.
Robert W Gibson made the assertions returning to Bangladesh on Thursday from a short break in the UK.
The High Commissioner said, “I am deeply saddened that within the last month, over 50 people have been killed and many hundreds more horribly injured in acts of violence across Bangladesh.”
He further said, “Many children have had their education badly affected: the economic cost grows daily. This is having a detrimental effect on the development and stability of the country.”
He hoped that all sides will refrain from inciting or committing future acts of violence and intimidation.
The British diplomat also mourned over the tragic death of eight passengers in Comilla on Tuesday and extended condolences to the families of all those who have been affected.
Gibson call on both the Government and all parties to exercise restraint and respect the rule of law, and to come together to break this cycle of violence and disruption.
