DHAKA: Pro-BNP-Jamaat lawyers panel ‘Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel’ under the name “Blue Panel” clinched majority in election of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) executive committee for 2015-2016.

Out of 14 posts, the Blue Panel won nine posts including those of president and general secretary.

On the other hand, ruling Awami League-led Grand Alliance backed Sammilita Ainjibi Samannaya Parishad that contested under the banner of White Panel, won five posts.

Convener of election sub-committee Advocate Harunur Rashid announced the result Tuesday morning after two-day long voting.

The result showed incumbent president of SCBA Advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, also adviser to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, was elected as president. He bagged 1,806 votes while his nearest candidate AL-backed Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun got 1,627 votes.

Incumbent general secretary of SCBA Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, also joint-secretary general of BNP, again elected as general secretary. He got 1,937 votes.

His nearest candidate M Momtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehedi, also member of AL executive committee, from White Panel got 1,529 votes.
