GOPALGANJ: President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday paid tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his 95th birth anniversary, placing wreaths at his mazar in Tungipara of Gopalganj.
At first, the President and then the Prime Minister laid wreaths at the mazar of Bangabandhu around 10:15am.
A smart contingent drawn from the three services gave guard of honour to the President and the premier at that time.
Sheikh Hasina later attended a children’s rally, discussion and a cultural function at Tungipara, the birth place of Bangabandhu, the undisputed leader of the country’s independence. She also inaugurated a book fair here.
Earlier, the day began with hoisting of the national and party flags at 6:30am by Prime Minister also ruling Awami League (AL) president Sheikh Hasina.
Later, the premier paid the homage by placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi and stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of respect to the memory of the Father of the Nation.
Cabinet members, advisers to the Prime Minister and parliament members were present on the occasion.
Later, alongside the central party leaders, Sheikh Hasina placed another wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu on behalf of her party.
