LAKSHMIPUR: Miscreants beat a local Awami League activist by tying with a tree and later chopped him to death in Chatkhil Upazila of the district Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as M Golam Mawla, 32, member of Ward no. 2 Awami League unit of Ramnarayanpur Union under Chatkhil Upazila, son of one Manu Mia of Sobhanpur village.

On information, police recovered the body from Kashipur village under Bashikpur Union of the upazila around 10am.

President of Ward no. 2 AL unit of Ramnarayanpur Union Abdul Matin Chowdhury told banglanews that he might have been killed at night.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Nazim Uddin of Chatkhil Thana confirmed the matter to banglanews.

“We have sent the body to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital for autopsy,” he added.
