DHAKA: War crimes convict Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mohammad Kamaruzzaman will not be hanged Monday night as the jail authorities are yet to receive any copy of the apex court verdict.
Dhaka Central Jail senior jail superintendent Farman Ali revealed the matter to the journalists in front of the jail on Monday evening.
Farman said: “Kamaruzzaman won’t be executed tonight. We have not obtained verdict copy yet.”
Replying a query to the journalists, the senior officials said: “We don’t know when the jail authorities get the verdict copy.”
“Whenever it (verdict copy) will reach here, we will then decide the execution of the verdict,” Farman added.
Earlier on the day, the Appellate Division rejected Kamaruzzaman’s review petition filed against its verdict upholding his death penalty for his crimes against humanity committed during War of Independence in 1971.
