Kamaruzzaman executed

DHAKA: War criminal Jamaat-e-Islami leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman was hanged on Saturday night for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.

He was executed around 10:30pm in Dhaka Central Jail amid beefed up security.

Earlier in the afternoon, Kamaruzzaman’s family members met the convict for the last before being hanged for committing crimes against humanity during the war. However, two of his sons could not meet him for staying outside of the country.

On April 6, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court rejected review petition of Jamaat assistant secretary general leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman against its verdict that upheld the death penalty of him.

On April 7, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court rejected review petition, filed on March 5, of Jamaat assistant secretary general Muhammad Kamaruzzaman against its verdict that upheld the death penalty of him for his crimes against humanity in 1971.

On April 8, Chief Justice (CJ) SK Sinha and three other judges signed the copy of the Appellate Division’s verdict on the review petition filed by Muhammad Kamaruzzaman.

Earlier on November 3 in 2014, the Appellate Division upheld the death penalty for Kamaruzzaman awarded by International Crimes Tribunal-2.

On May 9 of 2013, the ICT-2, led-by Justice Obaidul Hassan, awarded capital punishment to the Jamaat assistant secretary general for his crimes against humanity during country’s Liberation War in 1971.

Kamaruzzaman was executed as the second war criminal after Abdul Quader Mollah, assistant secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami.
