DHAKA: Tomoko Nishimoto, ILO Assistant Director General and Regional Director for Asia-Pacific, arrived in Dhaka Sunday ahead of the second-year Rana Plaza commemoration.
ILO Country Office in Bangladesh issued a press release in the afternoon regarding the visit.
She is expected to meet with the state minister for labor and employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu as well as Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain.
In addition, she will held meetings with representatives of employers’ and workers’ organizations as well as development partners.
On Wednesday (April 21), Nishimoto will participate in the opening session of a national tripartite consultation on social dialogue and industrial relations in Bangladesh.
Later on that day she will also take part in the inauguration of the Centre of Excellence for the Bangladesh RMG sector.
On Thursday (April 23), she will speak at a high-level commemoration event “Rana Plaza two years on: Towards a safer RMG sector for Bangladesh” organized by Bangladesh government and ILO with support from Canada, the Netherlands and United Kingdom.
During her visit Tomoko Nishimoto will also visit a garment factory to meet disabled employees who have received training, a footwear factory as well as the Centre of Excellence for Leather Skills in Bangladesh.
