GAZIPUR: Six accused and one policeman were killed as a tempo carrying them collided head-on with a truck in Porabari area of Gazipur district on Monday afternoon.

At least 12 policemen are injured in the accident.

The deceased are identified as police constable Mustafa Kamal (38), the tempo driver Muminullah (28), son of Amir Ali; Sohel Rana (27), Manik Mia (30), Masud Rana (32), Monir Hossain (26) and Sohrab Mia (15), residents of Durlapha village of Sreepur upazila of the district.

Gazipur district police super (SP) Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid told the media that the accused and a team of police were coming from Sreepur Thana to Gazipur court by riding on a tempo, which collided head-on with a truck in Porabari area of the district.

‘Six of the victims died on the spot. Fifteen, including four policemen are injured,’ he added.

The SP further said that the injured have rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment.

However, the policeman died on his way to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), said DMCH police camp assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Sentu Chandra Das.

Earlier, Gazipur deputy commissioner Nurul Islam told banglanews that on duty doctors of Shahid Tajuddin Medical College and Hospital declared six people dead on arrival.
