Intern docs’ strike paralyzes CMCH

CHITTAGONG: Medical service at Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) has come to a halt as the intern doctors have been going on strike since Monday night over assaulting one of their female fellows.

Intern Doctor Association joint convener Nasir Uddin Patwari Shuvo told banglanews that some seven to eight relatives came to visit a patient, who was kept in the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU), on Monday night.

As a female intern doctor disallowed them to enter the ICU altogether they assaulted her physically and threatened her of dire consequences, he added.

Following the incident, intern doctor went on work abstention at 11:00pm on Monday, treating no patient at the hospital’s outdoor and indoor departments.

The intern doctors, however, were set to form a human chain to press their three-point demand including punishment to the assaulters and security arrangement at the important wards of the hospital, said the convener.

CMCH police outpost sub-inspector (SI) Zahirul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
