No special train for Eid on Rajshahi-Dhaka route

RAJSHAHI: There will not be any special train for the passengers on Rajshahi-Dhaka route during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festival.

However, two Eid special intercity train services -- Khulna-Dhaka and Parbatipur-Dhaka -- will be initiated three days before the Eid to tackle the rush of home-bound people.

Superintendent of Railway (western zone) Abdul Karim told banglanews that they could not manage Eid special trains on Rajshahi-Dhaka route due to the shortage of manpower and rail-bogies.

“We, however, will add a compartment of 92 seats with all three intercity trains -- Silk City, Padma and Dhumketu -- that will ply on Rajshahi-Dhaka route three days before the Eid,” he added.

Abdul Karim also said 28 compartments will be added with 28 trains that ply on the routes in western zone of railway.

The railway (western zone) superintendent also said that they have taken enough security measures including setting up CCTVs at important places.

He further said the authority was alert about Holholia bridge on Shantahar-Joypurhat section and Koidanga bridge on Ishwardi-Ullapara section as those were a bit risky.

General Manager of Railway (western zone) Khairul Alam told banglanews that there are three trains plying on Dhaka-Rajshahi route and this is why no special train for Eid would be necessary.
