BANDARBAN: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to inaugurate the country’s highest ever Thanchi-Alikadam road in the district on Tuesday. 

The road will be opened to traffic in a program at Bandarban Deputy Commissioners’ office through video conference from the Gono Bhaban.

The 33 kilometer-long and 18 feet wide road has been paved 3,500 feet above from sea level, the highest road of the country, Nezarat Deputy Collector (NDC) Shamim Hossain told banglanews.

Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Harun-or-Rashid of District Administration told banglanews that the road will be inaugurated on District Administration premises through video conference around 11am.

State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracks affairs Bir Bahadur MP, senior officer of Bangladesh Army and sever department of the administration will also attend the programme. 

Army’s engineering department 16 ECB officer major Mahbubul Haque told banglanews that in 2006, the construction work of the 35-kilometer road has started  with the help of engineering department of Bangladesh Army, involving Tk120 crore.
