1 Bangladeshi killed, 4 hurt in BSF firing

JOYPURHAT: A Bangladesh national was killed and four others were injured in a firing of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) centering the fishing in Dugar Camp area near Bhutiapara border in Sadar upazila of the district on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Sayem, 35, son of Abdul Barik of Jaypurhat Sadar.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) camp and victims said some young men went to catch fish in the canal located in the area around 12:30pm.

Then the BSF members chased them and opened fire at them and blasted three cocktails, leaving five Bangladeshis injured.

The injured -- Sayem, 35, son of Abdul Barik at West Ramkrishnapur village, Parimal Mardi, son of Krishna Mardi, Faruk Hossain, 28, son of Khalekul, Abu Zafar Bidyut, 20, son of Anwar Hossain, and Nirmal Chandra, 35, of Sree Krista of Ramkrishnapur village under the upazila-- were taken to the local hospitals.

However, Sayem was shifted to the Bogra Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital (SZMC) as his condition was deteriorated, said Jodebpur Modern District Hospital Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Saidur Rahman.

Later, Sayem succumbed to his injuries at SZMC around 4:30pm.  

BGB Joypurhat-3 commander Lieutenant colonel Abdur Razzak Tarafdar confirmed the matter to banglanews.
