Book Committee visits Dhaka archaeological sites

DHAKA: The committee for a publication on Dhaka archeological heritages started visiting archaeological sites and rivers in Dhaka and its surrounding areas on Saturday morning.

Committee Chairman and also Dhaka University vice-chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the inspection program at Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) ghat at capital’s Badamtali around 9:45am.

More than 50 researchers, architects, artists, cultural and environmental activists, journalists and photographers, including Educationist and architect Shamsul Wares, artiste Samarjit  Chowdhury, researcher Maulana Muhammad Nuruddin Phatehpuri, president of the Bangladesh Institute of Architects Dr Abu Sayed M Ahmed are taking part in the program.

The journey by Water Bus has started from Buriganga via Dhaleshwari, Shitalakhya, Balu and Turag Rivers and will end at Badamtali ghat.

During the journey, the participants will visit the capital’s archaeological sites like as Pagalapool and temple, Idrakpur castle, Hajiganj castle, Marium mazar and mosque, Kadam Rasul Sonakanda castle and Kadam Rasul Dargah, located on the bank of the rivers.

The committee to compile books on Dhaka archaeological heritages is to write books, prepare reports and publish those on ancient architecture of the capital city.

On the basis of voluntary action, the job on old architecture is being conducted centering the Dhaka University.
