DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina vowed that child-marriage will be eliminated in Bangladesh before 2041.
She made this assertion in her ‘Girls Lead the Way’ speech at Colombia University in New York on September 25.
The PM is currently staying in the USA to attend United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
‘I am giving you the commitment that child-marriage will be eliminated from Bangladesh society before 2041.’
According to the PM, her incumbent government has taken several effective measures to pave the way in reaching the goal.
Government is implementing national work-plan and has amended the law regarding the issue, she added.
‘Women will move forward in building the nation overcoming all obstacles – this is the base of my thoughts about peace and development.’
She mentioned that more girls than boys are going to school in Bangladesh while about 6-crore children cannot go to school worldwide and most of them are girls.
Bangladesh government has taken various programs to ensure girls going to schools safely, she stated.
