‘Remove billboards by Sept 30’

DHAKA: City mayor Annisul Huq warned the people concerned saying that the billboards should be removed from city skyline by September 30.

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor made this warning at a press conference at his office Sunday morning.

‘The corporation will take legal action against the people involved in billboard business, if they do not remove the billboards by September 30.’

According to him, the corporation will rehabilitate the businesspeople involved in billboard business.

However, Outdoor Advertising Owners’ Association officials in a human-chain on August 26 in front of National Press Club in city said that they had paid tax till last June 30 but getting no opportunity to renew the permission.

They demanded one more year to remove the billboards gradually.

On the other hand, the city corporation announced ‘Green Dhaka Clean Dhaka’ program and asked the businesspeople to remove the billboards.

DNCC gave the time to remove the billboards by August 5 following the request of the billboard businesspeople.

Later on September 1 night, the corporation removed some billboards.

City corporation chief executive officer (CEO) BM Enamul Haque and chief waste management officer Captain Bipan Kumar Saha were also present at the press conference.
