PM leaves London for home

LONDON: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left London on Friday night after one-day stopover here on way to home after attending the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

A flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, carrying the premier and her entourage members left Heathrow International Airport for Dhaka around 8:35pm (London time).

Bangladesh High commissioner to UK Mohammad Abdul Hannan, UK AL president Sultan Sahrif and others saw the prime minister off at the airport.

The flight BG-002 of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, carrying the PM and her entourage, will fly to Bangladesh at 8:30pm Friday. 

The Prime Minister will have a stopover at MAG Osmani International Airport in Sylhet en route to Dhaka.

Local Awami League leaders will meet her here during the break of journey.

She is expected to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 1.30 pm Saturday.

Party sources told banglanews that the premier will be accorded reception for achieving the highest award by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) ‘Champions of the Earth’.

Earlier, she left New York for London’s Heathrow airport on Thursday morning after attending the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

During the short stopover at London, Sheikh Hasina addressed a gathering of Awami League leaders-activists at Claridges Hotel at Brook Street in London.

Sheikh Hasina left the country on September 23. On September 27, she received the ‘Champions of the Earth’ award from UNEP executive director Achim Steiner.
