TANGAIL: At least eight people, including son of land minister, were killed and 40 others, including policemen and fire fighters, injured in separate road accidents on Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway early hours of Saturday.
Of the deceased, one was identified as Sherif Rana (45), son of son of land minister Shamsur Rahaman Sherif.
Three other deceased were identified as Tofazzal Hossain (35) of Konabari of Sirajganj district, Nur Alim (42) and Sohel (35) of Sujanagar of Pabna district.
Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway (east) thana officer-in-charge (OC) Akheruzzaman and (west) thana OC Rakibul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
They said that earlier at dawn, a bus knocked a cattle-laden truck from behind on the highway leading a hit to five other vehicles in the queue.
The accident left four dead on the spot and scores injured.
Injured were sent to Tangail Medical Colelge Hospital (TMCH) and Sirajganj Sadar Hospital.
Later, one succumbed to his injuries at TMCH.
Four other people were killed and scored injured in a separate accident on the bridge around 8:00am on the day.
On information, a car of Sirajgang Fire Service rushed to the place and collided with a police vehicle leaving four police and four fire fighters injured.
They were admitted to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital.
