BRAHMANBARIA: The national power grid will get 22 million cubic feet of gas in fresh intake from Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Ltd to feed a growing demand for the fuel.

Meanwhile, 10 million cft has been added to the national grid from different fields, said officials.

Unwilling to be quoted by name, an official of the company told banglanews, “Marichakandi’s Meghna-1 at Banchanrampur and Titas-12 of Brahmanbaria under the supervision of Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Ltd are on the way to go for production. Gas from both the fields will be added in to the national grid within a week.”

Sources said the 3-million-cft-gas-producing field Meghna was abandoned as water and sand came out of the well. It was reactivated by spending Tk 2 crore. Now this field is ready to produce 10 million cubic feet a day.

On the other hand, the no-12 well of Titas Gas was closed down on January 17 this year. Repairs on this well are also about to be finished.  

Titas-12 was dug in 1999, which was able to produce 22 million cubic feet of gas, and had run for about 8 years. Two years later it was repaired spending Tk 25 crore, and the well was running experimentally before it was closed down in January.

Once ready, it would produce more than 12 million cubic feet of gas, officials hope.

Nurul Islam, director of Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Ltd, told banglanews that production in both the fields would start “very soon”.
