DHAKA: Championing a change in the centuries old mindset, new Inspector-General of Police Hasan Mahmud Khandaker announced maximum services of the police to be ensured for the people and also urged all to consider the cops as ‘friends’.

“Be with police, consider them as friends, and we are ready to give supreme security to the people,” said the IGP at a meeting Friday.

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry organized the meeting on law and order with the FBCCI president, AK Azad, in the chair.

“We don’t want to be special but to serve people holding responsible positions,” the IGP, who came from the top position elite-force RAB, told his business audience.

He hailed trade leaders for their satisfaction over the present law-and-order situation.

Appreciating spontaneous participation of people in minimizing drug abuse, unrest in readymade garment industry, traffic jam and other crises, the IGP said efforts of the police will be carried on to solve such problems.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner AKM Shahidul Haque in the meeting said, “With support from all, police can discharge their duties to maintain law and order successfully.”

The FBCCI members mentioned that country’s law-and-order situation was better during the month of Ramadan this time around.
