SATKHIRA: A seven-year-old schoolboy was killed by terrors at Bakra village in Ashashuni upazila early Tuesday, a day after his abduction for ransom.

Police recovered the body of Amir Hamza Sumon, the only son of Belal Hossain of the village, from Chumurkhola dam in the morning.

“Sumon might have been strangled,” said officer-in-charge of Ashashuni thana Fazlur Rahman. The body was sent to Satkhira Hospital for autopsy.

Police arrested Altaf Hossain for his suspected involvement in the killing.

Quoting family members, police said terrorists forcibly took away Sumon from his father on Monday night. Later, he was found dead on the dam.

“Sumon’s father had a conflict with his neighbours Mafijul, Mizanur and Altaf over a patch of khas land. He might have been killed following the conflict,” said one of the victim’s relatives.

Victim’s family members said that the rivals had been threatening Belal that his son would be kidnapped. Following the threat, Belal submitted a written complaint with the ASP of the district.

Ashashuni police station was informed soon after the abduction of the boy, claimed his family members.

A complaint has been registered with the police station accusing about 10/12 persons of committing the brutality.
