Huge foreign currency seized at airport; one held

DHAKA: Airport armed police held a man alongwith huge foreign currencies, worth about TK 2 crore, from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Sunday night.

Airport sources said the currencies were found in the luggage of Dubai-bound passenger Jahangir Alam who was leaving Dhaka by a flight of Qatar Airways (EK-585).

Assistant Armed Police Super Shamsul Alam said, “On suspicion, armed police members searched the luggage of Jahangir at about 11pm and found Riyal, US dollar and Kuwaiti Dinar, worth Tk 2 crore.

During the preliminary interrogation, Jahangir confessed that he was involved in currency smuggling, Shamsul Alam said.

The customs authority handed over Jahangir to Airport Police Station.

A case was filed under Currency Smuggling Act.
