DHAKA: The International Crimes Tribunal investigators claimed that they gathered enough evidences of 12 persons, including former Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Golam Azam, having committed ‘crimes against humanity’ during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.

Prosecutor of the tribunal Ziad Al-Malum came up with the disclosure at a press briefing at the prosecution office in the War Crimes Tribunal building Monday. Chief prosecutor Golam Arif Tipu was present.

Eleven others are Jamaat Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami, Secretary-General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed, Nayeb-e-Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee and assistant secretaries-general Mohammad Kamaruzzaman and Abdul Quader Mollah, top leaders Abul Kalam Azad, Mir Kashem Ali, Abdus Subhan and Shah Abdul Hannan, and BNP leaders Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury and Abdul Alim of Joypurhat.

Ziad Al-Malum said, “The investigation team has got sufficient evidences of mass killings, rapes and lootings during the war.”

Members of the prosecution and investigation agencies collected the evidences after visiting different districts, including Brahmanbaria, Sherpur, Jamalpur, Mymensingh, Khulna and Tangail, he informed.

Among the suspects, Nizami, Mojaheed, Sayedee, Kamaruzzaman and Quader Mollah are now in jail.

“The prosecution may take action for arresting the rest,” said Malum.

Meanwhile, Sayedee will be produced before the International Crimes Tribunal Tuesday in connection with war-crime charges. Golam Azam would be held “anytime soon”, said investigators.
