President leaves for UK for medical checkup

DHAKA: President Zillur Rahman left for London on Saturday morning for medical checkup at Bupa Cromwell Hospital.

A flight of the Emirates Airline carrying the President and his entourage left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 10:20am. He will have a stopover in Dubai at night, officials said.

Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, British High Commissioner in Dhaka Stephen Evans, Cabinet Secretary M Abdul Aziz and chiefs of the three services, among others, saw him off.

Expatriate Bangladeshis will accord the President a reception at Kensington Town Hall in London on June 26.

He is expected to return home on June 29.

President Zillur Rahman had earlier taken his treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore last February.
