Shahriar Kabir’s The Ultimate Jihad screened

DHAKA: The Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington DC Thursday organized the screening of a documentary titled The Ultimate Jihad by Shahriar Kabir, noted author, film-maker and human rights activist of Bangladesh.

The screening took place in the Bangabandhu Auditorium of the Embassy in presence of the film-maker himself, journalists, diplomats, members of academia and Bangladeshi Diaspora in the USA.

The Ultimate Jihad is the concluding part of Shahriar Kabir’s ‘Jihad Trilogy’. Centred on the theme of drawing connections between the 1971 war criminals and the recent rise of extremism in Bangladesh, the documentary highlighted the rationale of the trial in Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal.

Dedicated to the victims of 9/11, Kabir’s film starts with the tragic incident of twin tower devastation. It illustrates a series of interviews with Islamic scholars, politicians, terrorism experts, Jihadist leaders and human rights advocates from various parts of the world.

It discusses the idea of secularism as conceived by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

After the screening, Mr. Kabir responded to various queries of the audience on issues related to the source of violent radicalism and intolerance; the nexus among Jihadist organizations across the world; the means of fighting terrorism; and the need for secular approach and democratic governance for a peaceful world.
